Permanent – Full Time, 36 hours per week
Are you an experienced Mechanical & Electrical professional ready to take the lead in delivering a high‑performing, safety‑focused service for a diverse and growing borough? Redbridge is seeking a proactive and skilled Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) Manager to join our Asset Management Service and help shape the future of building safety and compliance across our housing stock.
About the Role
As the M&E Manager, you will be responsible for managing Redbridge’s Mechanical & Electrical safety and repairs function, ensuring full compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. You’ll work closely with contractors, consultants, and internal teams to deliver a first‑class service that prioritises resident safety, value for money, and continuous improvement.
Your work will directly support the Building, Compliance & People Safety Manager, and you’ll play a key role in developing the M&E service, managing risk, and driving performance across all workstreams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of the M&E safety and repairs service, ensuring compliance with regulations including NICEIC, LOLER and Gas Safety.
- Manage contractors and consultants, ensuring robust performance monitoring, KPI reporting, and financial oversight.
- Oversee a workstream budget of approximately £1.4 million, ensuring accurate financial data, effective spend control, and post‑work inspections.
- Drive service improvements, analyse performance data, and escalate underperformance where necessary.
- Lead contract management meetings and contribute to procurement and programming of framework contracts.
- Support the wider Repairs Service in relation to electrical safety.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams such as Housing Management, Property Services, Finance, and Asset Management.
- Represent the service at resident forums, panels, and key stakeholder meetings.
- Participate in the out‑of‑hours on‑call rota when required.
About You
You’ll bring strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering high‑quality, customer‑focused services. You will have:
- ONC/BTEC/NVQ or equivalent in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Substantial experience in M&E, compliance, and health & safety within a property or demand‑led environment.
- Proven experience managing contractors delivering outsourced M&E repairs. First-hand experience of Client Managing a contractor in the delivery of an outsourced day to day M&E repairs service.
- Strong understanding of health & safety, risk assessments, and safe working practices.
- Ability to analyse data, manage budgets, and drive performance improvements.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and problem‑solving skills.
- A commitment to equality, customer care, and continuous professional development.
- Technical experience of identifying, specifying, monitoring and quality checking M&E repair activity.
- Ability to engender a customer focused "can do" culture within the team and to actively contribute towards the effective and efficient provision of quality services.
