Redbridge SEN is in an enviable position in their service to children with special educational needs and an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Qualified Teacher of Children and Young People with Vision Impairment or a teacher who is keen to train.
SENDATS is one of the largest and most dynamic SEN Teams in the country; with over staff including specialist advisory teachers, HLTAs and Technicians, who are all committed to the SENDATS ethos where the “pupils’ needs are at the heart of all we do”.

SENDATS is looking to appoint a positive and creative Qualified Teacher of Children and Young People with Vision Impairment (QTVI) or someone who is willing to train to join our Sensory Team which includes Teachers of Deaf Children and Young People, Multi-Sensory Impairment Teacher, Audiology Technician and technicians. We provide an advisory service to pupils with sensory impairments across a range of settings within the Local Authority.
Candidates will be passionate about teaching VI pupils across the age range (0-25) and must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
You will be able to:
- Work/model with and for class teachers and teaching assistants
- Provide specialist assessment for VI pupils
- Provide advice/strategies to aid access to the curriculum
- Provide personalised support and intervention, such as Braille
- Provide training and advice to support pupils with VI
- To act as an advocate for VI pupils where appropriate
- To work collaboratively with parents, carers, and families to promote understanding and acceptance of visual needs
- To work in liaison with Health and other services
- Signpost to appropriate resources and relevant organisations
- Work with parents post diagnosis, which may include home visits, such as for pre-school children
- Support a range of settings to identify and meet the VI needs of children in mainstream and Special Schools
- Support the VI needs of all children including those with complex needs
- Keep up to date with current statutory requirements and reasonable adjustments for exam concessions.
- To provide reports e.g. Annual Reviews and statutory advice and expert witness reports if required
- Maintain SENDATS record keeping via the caseload overview and pupil support logs
- Attend Annual Reviews and other professionals’ meetings e.g. transition, clinic
- Provide high quality, practical, bespoke, and creative training packages
- Liaise and work with the Sensory team and wider SENDATS team
- Liaise with QTVIs in other boroughs where appropriate
