Job description

We’re Hiring: Three Exciting HLTA Opportunities for Experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistants

HIGHER LEVEL TEACHING ASSISTANT

LBR 6 - £35,520 (will be pro-rated)

32 hours 30 mins. per week, 8.30 – 3.30 pm (not negotiable)

Term time only 44.46 weeks only but paid pro rata /split over 52 weeks

We have a vacancy for three (3) skilled Higher-Level Teaching Assistants, qualified to NVQ3 or equivalent, to join Redbridge’s SENDATS (SEND Advisory and Training Service).

If you’re driven, confident, and ready for a role where every day brings something different, we’d love to hear from you.  You will join a diverse, committed and highly experienced team who will offer a supportive environment to enable you to develop greater breadth and depth to your experience.

HLTA – School based

If you feel that you can make a difference at the L.A level, reaching multiple schools and young people, leading and developing school practice to ensure the best possible opportunities for some of our most vulnerable pupils, this is the opportunity for you. You will work closely with a range of specialist advisory teachers, technicians and other professionals promoting inclusive opportunities, best practice and secure transitions.

HLTA – Home Tuition Service

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in varied environments and enjoys working independently as well as part of a wider team.

We are particularly, though not exclusively, interested in someone who has experience of working in the Secondary Education sector. However, successful candidates may be asked to work across any age range (5-25) dependent on service needs.

You should be someone who thrives on new challenges, who can manage ever changing expectations; understanding that our young people can move in and out of school placements at short notice. If you have a positive problem-solving attitude, are prepared to ‘go the extra mile’ to advocate and most of all care about the future of some of our most vulnerable young people, this is the role for you.

You will work alongside a range of specialist and subject teachers, tutors and technicians. You will support transitions into new school placements and setting. You will manage your own caseload of pupils and carry a high level of trust to organise your work and travel needs. You will have a clear understanding that the service ethos is to help our young people reintegrate back into schools or settings, to ensure they meet their individual potential and you will work collaboratively with schools, parents and other professionals to support our young people to move towards this goal.

You may be asked to work in a range of settings including: students’ homes, care homes, local libraries, mainstream and special schools.

You may be asked to deliver 1:1 tuition in the home, small group sessions, work alongside a teacher as part of a wider group educational offer, facilitate reintegration back into mainstream schools.

When applying, please clearly state on your cover letter which role you are applying to and you can apply to both roles.

Please note that both posts are peripatetic, and the successful candidates will be expected to travel to diverse settings across the borough and manage their travel requirements across the day. This is an essential to the role.

Come and join our team and make a real difference to young people’s lives.

All applications must be received by the closing date 20th May 2026.

Interviews will be held on W/C 1st June 2026.
