Role Overview:
The Social Worker within the Duty & Advice (MASH) Team plays a critical role in safeguarding children and young people by receiving, screening, and assessing contacts and referrals. Working within a fast-paced multi-agency environment, the post holder gathers and analyses information from partner agencies, assesses risk and need, and makes timely decisions to ensure children and families receive the right support at the right time. The role requires strong safeguarding knowledge, sound professional judgement, and effective partnership working with agencies including police, health, education, and early help services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Screen and assess contacts and referrals to identify levels of risk, need, and appropriate safeguarding responses for children and families.
- Gather, analyse, and evaluate information from partner agencies to support evidence-based decision making and threshold determinations.
- Undertake safeguarding and risk assessments and make timely recommendations regarding intervention, support, or statutory involvement.
- Provide professional advice and guidance to partner agencies, professionals, and members of the public on safeguarding concerns and pathways for support.
- Maintain accurate and timely records and contribute to strategy discussions, multi-agency meetings, and safeguarding decision-making processes.
Key Requirements:
- Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration and experience working within children's safeguarding services.
- Strong assessment and analytical skills, with the ability to make sound safeguarding decisions based on complex and often conflicting information.
- Experience of multi-agency working and a thorough understanding of child protection, safeguarding thresholds, and statutory guidance.
