Hours: 36.66 per week Hybrid working with frequent site visits)

Role Overview:
Are you already a Registered Building Control professional looking to take the next steps to develop and increase your skills and ability.
We are looking to appoint an Assistant Building Control Officer to our Building Control team here in Oldham.
The role will help deliver Oldham’s responsibilities under the Building Safety Act and the requirements of the Building Safety Regulator.
You’ll be part of a team that works within the planning service that ensures safe and compliant development.
As an Assistant Building Control Officer, you will:
- Further develop your skills in Building Control
- Be looking to extend your registration status
- Be supported in a structured development and training programme.
- Be involved in a wide and diverse range of work providing opportunities to learn and develop
- Support the enforcement of building regulations and allied legislation.
- Work under supervision where appropriate, carry out inspections, plan appraisals and enforcement interventions.
- Support the wider activities undertaken by the service such as dealing with dangerous structures, demolitions.
- Work within the adopted quality management framework.
- Be registered at minimum Class 1 with the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) and working towards a higher class of registration.
- Have a construction-based HNC/HND or equivalent knowledge through experience and training.
- Have experience of working in a building control environment, with an understanding of construction methods, experience of assessing plans, undertaking site inspections.
- Have strong communication skills, both written and verbal, ability to communicate effectively at all levels with colleagues and wider users of the service.
- Have excellent interpersonal skills, diplomacy and an ability to operate in challenging situations.
- Have a valid driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Key Responsibilities:
- To be registered and maintain registration with the Building Safety Regulator.
- Support the enforcement of building regulations and allied legislation.
- Where appropriate, carry out inspections, plan appraisals and enforcement interventions, where agreed under supervision of a senior officer.
- Work within the services adopted quality management framework.
Key Requirements:
- A construction-based HNC/HND or equivalent knowledge through experience and training.
- Current registration at minimum Class 1 with the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) and working towards a higher class of registration.
- Experience of working in a building control environment, with an understanding of construction methods, experience of assessing plans, undertaking site inspections.
