Homelessness Duty Manager
£45,750 - £49,056 per annum
12 months Fixed Term

Experienced Homelessness Duty Manager needed. Initial 12 month Fixed Term Contract with possibility of permanent contract following internal restructure.

London Borough of Newham is seeking an experienced Housing Advisor/Manager with frontline Homelessness Duty experience.

You will be an experienced officer with detailed knowledge and significant experience of PVII Housing Act 1996 as amended by Homelessness Reduction Act 2017. You may manage a small team of up to 4 Officers but your principle daily duties will be acting as Duty Manager, ensuring residents get access to relevant services, that decisions made are correct and that where possible, temporary accommodation use is minimised through successful homelessness prevention/relief.

Based in our office in Stratford, you will be supported to learn our systems, policies and procedures as you support the team, often through MS Teams. You will lead on urgent homeless on the day cases, supporting officers to make non-eligible and not-homeless decisions as appropriate. You will ensure appointments are being conducted appropriately with outcomes recorded and shared as required.

There will be flexibility to work from home up to 2 days per week. During this time you will be required to assist the team with casework, decisions and service improvement.

Leading a team operating remotely, from the office and Housing Hubs, you will be the operational lead in ensuring the the Service meets statutory obligations and prioritises resident service access, striking a balance between early intervention and meeting urgent need.

Homelessness is as a result of private sector evictions, it’s the result of overcrowded families, it’s the result of domestic abuse.

The role can be challenging but also rewarding. The right candidate has the opportunity to positively impact the lives of thousands of residents across Newham.
This is an excellent role for those with experience of working in a high demand London Local Authority as a Housing Advisor (or similar) who is looking at taking their next steps in their career in housing, with clear opportunities for progression.

Interesting, difficult, fulfilling and never boring.
