Resettlement and Support Officer
£40,182 - £42,060 per annum

Newham is one of London’s most vibrant and diverse boroughs, home to a young population and a rich cultural heritage. We are committed to putting people at the heart of everything we do, and we’re proud to offer inclusive services that reflect the needs of our community.

The Resettlement and Support team has been recently established to assess the needs of individuals and families in temporary accommodation with a focus on achieving positive outcomes and enabling their move into suitable long term housing and to provide support to residents in nightly paid accommodation.

The Role

We are seeking a dedicated Resettlement and Support Officer to join our Housing Needs service. You will work directly with homeless households in temporary accommodation, helping them access support from local voluntary, community and faith organisations, schools, health services, and adult social care. Your goal will be to empower residents to move into suitable, settled accommodation—whether through social housing or the private rented sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a customer-focused service to households in temporary accommodation.
  • Assess housing needs and promote alternative housing options.
  • Liaise with internal and external partners to coordinate support.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to performance monitoring.
  • Apply housing legislation including the Housing Act 1996 and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.

About You

  • Has experience working in housing, homelessness, or support services.
  • Understands relevant legislation and can apply it in practice.
  • Is empathetic, organised, and committed to improving outcomes for vulnerable residents.
  • Can work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Why Join Us?

  • Generous annual leave and pension scheme.
  • Access to training and development opportunities.
  • A supportive and inclusive working environment.
  • Hybrid working options available.
