We are recruiting 4 Therapists to join our Multisystemic Team on a fixed term basis for 3 years, within our Safeguarding Service.
Our Safeguarding Service
The ambition for Child Protection in Newcastle is for families to receive the right support at the right time and at the first time from the right people to ensure children are kept safe. Child Protection is underpinned by relational practice between partner agencies and families.
In Newcastle, we have established a Safeguarding Delivery Service and a Multiagency Child Protection Team which provides a seamless service when children are at risk of or have suffered significant harm. Within our Safeguarding Delivery Service and Multiagency Child Protection Team there is a range of skills and experience delivered by Social Workers, overseen by experienced Team Managers with the support of Child Protection Lead Practitioners with collaboration between partner agencies such as Police, Health and Education. Our aim is to provide a proportionate multi-agency response to harm.

As part of our continued investment in evidence-based services, we are establishing a new Multisystemic Therapy (MST) Return Home Team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the development and delivery of a pioneering service that will support children and young people returning home from residential or foster care. The MST Return Home model provides intensive, family-centred intervention designed to improve reunification outcomes, reduce re-entry to care, and help families build sustainable change. The model works closely with families and wider systems including social care, education, health and community networks to support successful transitions home.
We are looking for four skilled and passionate practitioners to join our new team and play a vital role in improving outcomes for children, young people and their families.
About the Role
As an MST Return Home Therapist, you will work intensively with a small number of families, delivering evidence-based interventions in homes, schools and community settings.
You will:
Deliver MST Return Home interventions with fidelity to the model.
Work collaboratively with children, young people, parents, carers and wider family networks.
Undertake comprehensive assessments and develop tailored intervention plans.
Engage with education, health, social care and community partners to build sustainable support systems around families.
Participate in regular supervision, consultation and ongoing professional development.
Collect and analyse outcome data to support service effectiveness.
Participate in a rota system that provides support to families outside traditional office hours.
The role requires flexibility, as interventions are delivered at times that best meet the needs of children and families.
About You:
We are seeking highly motivated practitioners who are committed to helping children remain safely within their families and communities.
You will have:
A recognised professional qualification in Social Work, Mental Health Nursing, Psychology, Youth Justice, Family Intervention or another relevant discipline.
Experience of working directly with children, young people and families facing complex challenges.
Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, children in care and child development.
Experience of delivering strengths-based and relationship-focused interventions.
The ability to engage families.
Strong assessment, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and partnership-working abilities.
A commitment to evidence-based practice and improving outcomes for children.
Experience of systemic practice, behavioural interventions, family therapy approaches or MST is desirable but not essential.
