North East Museums is a major regional museum, art gallery and archives service. We manage twelve museums and galleries across North East England and the Archives for Tyne and Wear.

We are looking for a Customer and Facilities Manager to provide leadership and operational support across four distinctive venues in North & South Tyneside: 
  • Segedunum Roman Fort, Wallsend 
  • Stephenson Steam Railway, North Shields 
  • South Shields Museum & Art Gallery, South Shields 
  • Arbeia Roman Fort, South Shields 
This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. You will lead and inspire Front of House teams, ensuring visitors receive an outstanding experience while overseeing the smooth operation of our facilities, which include two World Heritage Sites. From managing people and performance, to coordinating building-related needs and supporting venue operations, you will play a key role in the success of our museums and galleries. 

We're seeking a motivated and experienced manager who can: 
  • Lead, support and develop high-performing customer service teams 
  • Create a welcoming and engaging visitor experience 
  • Manage performance confidently and effectively 
  • Oversee the operational needs of complex buildings and visitor sites 
  • Maintain a regime of robust health and safety procedures and practices 
  • Build positive relationships with staff, visitors and partners 
  • Prioritise competing demands across multiple locations 
  • Respond calmly and effectively to operational challenges 
  • Work closely with other senior team leads to deliver an engaging and accessible programme 
  • Contribute to income generation initiatives

Additional Requirements
  • The job role requires the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English.
  • On occasion the job role will require the holder to work evenings and weekends. 
  • The job holder will also be required to support call outs and emergency situations out of hours.
  • The job holder will be required to work across 4 different sites on a weekly basis.
