An exciting opportunity has arisen for a professional and motivated individual to join our Security Services team as a Security Officer based within the Security Control Room at Newcastle Civic Centre.

This is a critical operational role requiring excellent communication skills, sound judgement and the ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with incidents, emergency situations and members of the public. We are looking for individuals with proven experience working within a security control room, monitoring centre, CCTV control room or similar operational environment.

About the Role

Working as part of a professional security team, you will be responsible for monitoring and coordinating security operations across a diverse portfolio of Council buildings and assets. This is a fast-paced environment that requires strong attention to detail, the ability to prioritise competing demands and confidence in making decisions under pressure.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Monitoring CCTV, access control, intruder alarms and other security systems.
  • Receiving, assessing and responding to incidents, alarms and emergency calls.
  • Coordinating mobile response officers and providing operational support during incidents.
  • Maintaining accurate electronic and written records.
  • Producing clear, concise and professional incident reports.
  • Liaising with emergency services, staff, contractors and members of the public.
  • Delivering a high standard of customer service while maintaining security protocols.

What We Are Looking For

To be successful in this role, you must be able to demonstrate:
  • Previous experience working in a Security Control Room, CCTV Monitoring Centre, Alarm Receiving Centre or similar security monitoring environment.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively in high-pressure situations, ensuring information is passed accurately and promptly.
  • Excellent spoken English with the ability to communicate clearly, confidently and professionally
  • An excellent radio and telephone manner, including the ability to pass accurate information quickly and effectively.
  • Strong written communication skills, with experience completing incident logs, reports and records to a high standard.
  • Excellent IT skills and experience using multiple computer systems simultaneously.
  • The ability to remain calm, organised and professional in challenging situations.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow policies and procedures.
  • Reliability, punctuality and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service.

Essential Requirements
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Proven experience within the security industry.
  • Ability to work a 24-hour shift pattern.
  • Experience using CCTV, access control, alarm monitoring or incident management systems.

Desirable Requirements
  • Current SIA CCTV Licence.
  • Current SIA Door Supervisor Licence.

Comprehensive training will be provided for successful candidates who do not currently hold the required SIA licences.

Additional Information

Appointment to this post, and continued employment thereafter, is subject to the satisfactory completion of a Non-Police Personnel Vetting (NPPV2) check and the receipt of satisfactory references.

A 24-hour service is operated. You will work 11-hour shifts on an 8-week rota pattern, averaging 37 hours per week. Shift enhancements, weekend enhancements and contractual overtime payments are paid in addition to the basic salary.
