This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic Assistant Operations Manager to assist in leading and managing our Grounds Maintenance Service Team across the City, with responsibility for delivering a high standard of service to Newcastle City Council residents, schools, businesses, and partners.

About us:
Our Grounds Maintenance Service works across the city providing, grass cutting, shrub maintenance, planting schemes and other horticultural services, along our highways, in green spaces, parks and neighbourhoods.

We have a large team of gardeners working Monday to Friday between 7.30am and 4pm with occasional weekend and out of hours working. Within the role you will work closely with the Senior Operations Manager to deliver the service and have the supervisory support from 3 Grounds Leads.

Our work includes a number of contracts with internal and external customers which you will support to ensure we deliver to a high standard alongside our service to residents and business.

Our service is continuing to develop using new technology to ensure ongoing efficiency and improvement.

The successful candidate will have experience of managing staff within a horticultural service and be able to demonstrate their skills against the essential and desirable criteria within the person specification, showing clear skills that would assist staff in service delivery.

Flexibility to support other services is also a key requirement as the successful candidate will be part of the Local Services and Waste Management team who also manage:
  • City Wide Cleansing Operation
  • Mechanical Sweeping team
  • Domestic and Trade, Waste and Recycling collections
  • Household Waste Recycling Centres
