Our Children’s Residential Service is looking for compassionate and motivated people to join the team as an Apprentice Residential Care Officer in one of the Council’s children’s homes.  

What will I be doing?  

You will be working closely with a team of compassionate and experienced Residential Care Officers. With support, you will work directly with young people living in our residential homes, contributing to high-quality, individualised care and support. 

 
What will I need?  

You don’t need previous experience, and you will be supported to learn the role. We are looking for someone who is compassionate and interested in a rewarding career supporting young people.

What will I receive in return? 

We’ll support you to learn new skills, and to thrive in your role, undertaking a Children, Young People and Families Practitioner Level 4 Apprenticeship. The role is full time (37 hours per week) for a fixed term of 2 years. At Newcastle City Council our apprentices are paid a percentage of the salary for the role the apprentice is working towards. This is always at least National Minimum Wage and increases each year as you develop your knowledge and skills. 

This apprenticeship role is working towards the full role of Residential Care Officer, N6, £32,597.  
In Y1 you will be paid 60% of the salary rate, or NMW, whichever is higher. In Y2 you will be paid 65% of the salary rate, or NMW, whichever is higher.  

Whilst we are unable to guarantee a post in the role apprentices work towards, all our apprentices are supported to apply for suitable vacancies when they complete their apprenticeship so that they can make use of their new skills and qualifications.
