Required for September 2026

Chillingham Road Primary School is a historic single form entry Local Authority maintained school, located centrally in the vibrant and desirable Newcastle suburb of Heaton to the East of the city centre. We have recently appointed our former deputy head as Headteacher, and as a result we are now seeking an experienced and inspirational educational professional with demonstrable experience in the primary school sector to be our new deputy.

Our academic outcomes are strong, but in addition to that we believe in more than just numbers and data and our offer is fully holistic to ensure that children are developed individually, morally, socially, and culturally. This was confirmed at Spring 2025’s Ofsted inspection’s Outstanding judgement for personal development.

Chillingham Road is a single form entry primary school with 240 pupils, including a playgroup and nursery. We describe ourselves as ‘a village school in the heart of the city’ and the school has a real family feel to it, with staff, pupils, parents and governors working together to achieve the best outcomes for children. We have an experienced staff cohort who have stayed with us whilst developing their skills and craft, as well as being hugely committed to the academic and personal development of our children.

We have a pro-active and committed Governing Body, many of whom have remained on the board well after their children have left the school. As is the nature of a single form entry school our governing body is visible and highly active in school, in classrooms, with families, and in the wider community.

Working alongside our Headteacher, you will be a role model for our values and ethos as a true community school. As this role has teaching responsibilities, when not being in class we expect you to be a visible presence, including providing support where required in other classrooms and to support school events, both internally and externally.
You will be a part of developing and promoting a strategic vision for the future which builds on the progress we have made, encompassing our values, and recognising changes and developments in education and to celebrate who we are at Chilli Road.

As well as having excellent teaching and professional credentials, you will be an aspiring leader with the ability to motivate and empower staff and our children. You will be able to demonstrate your contribution to whole school changes you have been a part of, through effective operational planning and a review of their impacts and outcomes.

The personal specification and job description is in the candidate pack.
