Are you passionate about helping young people who have special educational needs to transition to independence?

We are looking to recruit a dedicated individual with experience of working with SEN children and young people to take on a challenging new role created to promote and support independent travel for Merton students.

In this role, you will work with students, their families and schools to develop and promote the provision of training for independent travel. Your goal will be to maximise opportunities for young people to be provided with the necessary skills and confidence to travel to school and elsewhere using a range of transport options.

You'll provide advice and guidance as to the suitability of travel training for students and work with the council’s commissioned services to ensure the timely provision of tailored programmes.

You will be an effective communicator, committed to building relationships with families, schools and SENDIS colleagues to enable young people to achieve greater independence.

Support will be available to undertake qualifications relevant to the post.

This is a fixed term post for 24 months

Final appointment will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.

What you can expect from us.

  • A competitive starting salary £38,256
  • A flexible approach to working arrangements to help you achieve a greater work/life balance, including a 35-hour working week, and flexitime scheme.
  • A generous annual leave entitlement of 27.5 days paid leave (plus bank holidays).
