We are developing a new and exciting role to focus on children’s absence from school related to their health. We are looking for a person with experience of giving health related advice, someone who has an understanding of education and school attendance. This would suit a highly organised person with good communication skills and a desire to improve outcomes and access to education for children.
Main Duties will include:
Developing the processes for tracking children’s absence by illness.
Communicating with schools and giving advice and support to ensure the child attends.
Develop in conjunction with families, schools and health partners an attendance plan.
To lead for the authority on the children missing from education due to illness.
Ensure the local authority discharges its statutory duties in accordance with Section 19 of the Education Act 1996 in relation to medical absence.
Respond to the 15 day notification of a child’s absence by illness.
Record, monitor and report on the data to help our understanding of children’s absence by medical need.
