The Children, Lifelong Learning and Families Department are seeking a highly organised and trustworthy Business Support (SARs) officer who will be responsible for managing Subject Access Requests (SARs) received by the Department. This will involve working closely with teams across the Department, as well as with our corporate  Information Governance team.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Receiving, logging and processing SARs that have been allocated to the Children, Lifelong Learning and Families Department, and maintaining accurate records regarding SARs activity.
  • You will ensure highly sensitive, confidential information is redacted to ensure the Council’s compliance with GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
  • You will work across the whole department, coordinating with services to gather relevant information, in a timely way to help the Department meet its statutory deadlines.

We are looking for someone who has an awareness of children’s safeguarding as you will be handling sensitive and personal information. You should have excellent attention to detail and be highly organised. You will be able to handle sensitive and personal information, ideally with experience operating within GDPR and data protection principles. You will also be able to work independently and build relationships with a range of officers from fellow business support officers to Heads of Service.

You will be part of a friendly and supportive multi-disciplinary team. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone who is interested in developing their skills around compliance and information governance legislation.

What we offer

Merton values its staff, and you will be offered opportunities for developing your skills as well as additional specific in-house training as required for the job.

Please see our why work for us page on our website for more information about a great range of benefits that go beyond salary and offer flexibility to suit you.
