Introduction

This is an exciting time to join Lewisham Council’s IT & Digital Services team as we strengthen our approach to cyber security and continue to modernise the technology that supports services across the Council.

What’s the role? ……

As our IT Security Manager, you will take a leading role in shaping and strengthening our cyber security capability. You will have the opportunity to influence how security is embedded across our technology environment, working with colleagues across the Council, Shared Technology Services (STS) and other technology partners.

What you'll be doing

This is a varied role with the opportunity to make a real impact. You will:

Help shape our cyber security strategy and improvement roadmap, ensuring our approach continues to evolve as technology and cyber threats change.
Provide security assurance for new technology, projects and digital solutions, challenging and supporting teams to understand and manage security risks.
Lead on cyber risk, governance and compliance, supporting the Council in meeting relevant government and industry security requirements.
Work closely with STS and other technology suppliers, providing oversight and challenge around security controls, vulnerabilities and risks.
Lead and coordinate our response to security incidents, ensuring lessons are captured and improvements are embedded.
Provide trusted security advice to senior leaders, translating complex technical issues into clear business risks and practical actions.
Help build a strong security culture, working with colleagues across IT & Digital Services and the wider Council.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for an experienced cyber security professional who can combine strong technical understanding with leadership, judgement and the ability to influence.

You'll be comfortable working across a large and complex organisation, building relationships with technical specialists, suppliers and senior stakeholders. You'll be able to challenge constructively, make sense of complex security issues and communicate them clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

You'll bring experience across areas such as security strategy and governance, cyber risk, security assurance, incident management and compliance, together with an ability to get things done through collaboration and influence.

Location

The job is primarily based in Laurence House, but we operate a hybrid approach where you will be required to work both in the office and from home on a regular basis.

Salary

£65,922 - £68,265 per annum (P08)

N.B: All appointments will be offered at the minimum spinal column point (SCP) for the grade of the role. The only exception to this will be when matching current salary (up to the maximum of the scale), which is subject to evidential proof.
