Discover yourself in Lewisham where what you do makes a difference to our vibrant and culturally diverse communities!

We have a rich history of welcoming people from all over the world and are proud to be recognised as the UK’s first Borough of Sanctuary, for our work in championing the rights of refugees and migrants.

Introduction

Do you thrive on engaging with residents and businesses in a clear, friendly, and persuasive way? If you can think on your feet, solve everyday recycling challenges, and create compelling content—from leaflets and social posts to community‑event materials—that inspires real behaviour change, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re looking for someone who can confidently manage on‑the‑ground teams, support public‑facing campaigns, and use content management systems to keep information accurate, accessible, and engaging. If you enjoy working with people, communicating creatively, and turning sustainability goals into practical action, this could be the perfect role for you.

What’s the role? …

  • Lead and support a team of Recycling Advisors out in the community, ensuring they deliver high‑quality engagement and guidance.
  • Engage with residents and businesses to boost recycling and reduce waste, offering practical solutions and clear advice.
  • Use your creativity, communication skills, and problem‑solving flair to inspire action through conversations, campaigns, and on‑the‑ground activities.
  • Be part of a team making Lewisham cleaner, greener, and more sustainable, while guiding and motivating staff to deliver excellent service every day

What’s in it for you?

Excellent training and development opportunities, plus a range of benefits including:

  • Generous holiday allowance
  • Local Government Pension scheme
  • Flexible working and family friendly policies
  • Season ticket and bicycle loans
  • A range of staff discounts including local subsidised gym memberships
  • Supportive staff networks

What we’re looking for

We’re seeking a confident communicator who can engage, motivate, and inspire our diverse community to recycle more and waste less. You’ll bring strong problem‑solving skills, a proactive mindset, and a genuine passion for sustainability. Experience in public engagement, environmental campaigns, or community‑focused roles is a strong advantage, along with a creative flair for producing engaging content across different formats.

You should be organised, reliable, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a wider team. Knowledge of recycling practices, behaviour‑change principles, or local authority waste services is desirable and will help you thrive in this role.
