Working on a two-week rota

Week 1: 9am – 5pm Monday – Friday

Week 2: 9am – 5pm Tuesday- Wednesday and Saturday & Sunday

About the role

As our Tele Care Domestic and Collection Assistant –you’ll will play a key role in the supply of equipment to support daily living tasks and independence. This is achieved by cleaning equipment which is returned from people’s home when no longer required.

You will be required to collect from people’s own home, any equipment no-longer required.

You will also work closely with the warehouse and maintenance staff within the service to identify equipment which can be recycled and to maintain minimum stock levels.

The role is integral to our Leeds Tele Care Equipment team to support and enable people to live safe, independent, and fulfilling lives, supporting health and social care statutory responsibilities. The service is important to the prevention agenda and provides a vital gateway to independence, dignity and wellbeing for people living in the community. The provision of these products supports avoidance of hospital admission, enables safe rapid discharge from hospital and prevents premature take up of care including residential placements.

The service operates 7 days a week and provides the delivery, ordering, maintenance, service and repair of community equipment following a professional assessment. The service also collects and refurbished equipment for it to be reissued. This role is essential for the recycling of telecare equipment.

Job Description

Job Purpose:

The main purpose of the job is to have the knowledge and skills relating to individual items of telecare equipment to ensure they are all cleaned to an acceptable high standard and that they are in a serviceable condition prior to re-issue.  To ensure that the service accommodation is also clean and presentable.

To undertake the collection of telecare equipment which has been issued, used by customers and requires returning to the Service.

Responsibilities:

  • To remove and collect equipment from customer’s properties ensuring minimal damage from the use of any required tools.
  • To disconnect equipment from the customer details and restore to factory settings.
  • To be able to drive a manual vehicle.
  • You will comply with the Local Operational Procedure requirement for safe vehicle checks e.g. daily visual inspection of tyres, lights, oil etc.
  • To liaise with customers and their families to arrange collections
  • To use scanner technology on collected items and ensure that the details have been uploaded on the logistic system.
  • You will be accountable for all equipment (scanners, laptops, tools etc) and stock belonging to the Leeds Telecare Service. To ensure equipment is transported securely and looked after with due care and attention.
  • You will transport safely and securely confidential client data for the purposes of collections.
  • You will use computerised systems to record, collate and retain all relevant details of collections and to ensure that actions can be tracked electronically.
  • Responsibility to ensure correctly protective clothing and footwear are worn as directed by the Infection Control Nurses and Health and Safety Policies.
  • To store the equipment safety in the decontamination area once collected.
  • To follow manufacture’s cleaning instructions and service safe systems of work.
  • To have the knowledge, skills and capability to identify and use the different chemicals required to enable the cleaning of the various items of telecare equipment and the cleaning of the service decontamination area.
  • Responsibility or lifting, moving and storing equipment safely within the cleaning and main stores area whilst observing the Moving and Handling regulations.
  • To assist the installation staff in removing equipment from vehicles on their return to the service if own workload allows.
  • To dismantle equipment prior to cleaning, removing any parts that can harbour foreign bodies or that require intensive cleaning.
  • To have the ability to clean complex specialised items of electrical equipment and to dismantle and remove any parts to enable cleaning to be undertaken.
  • To hand wash items of equipment and removable parts which cannot be cleaned in the was unit to the standard as determined by the Infection Control Nurses or to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • After equipment has been cleaned and dried the items are to be reassembled, inspected, bagged and instructions supplied (where possible) and the decision made as their suitability for re-issue. Complex specialised equipment to be reassembled but will then be inspected by the other appropriate teams.
  • When the decision has been made to the suitability of the items the correct acceptance or rejections procedures are to be adhered to.
  • To advise the management team of any problems relating to equipment, machinery or cleaning area issues.
  • To inform the Stock Control staff of any stocks of cleaning materials required whilst ensuring adequate supplies are available to continue the service.
  • To support a flexible approach to service workload requirements.
  • Keep warehouse area clean and tidy
  • To work with Leeds Equipment Service within the decontamination and warehouse
  • You will assist with deliveries, stock allocations, storage, and labelling, cleaning, testing and repair and stock control of telecare equipment and accurately maintain all records associated with stock control and maintenance of equipment.
