We are looking to recruit a Senior Gas Officer to join our well-established Gas Team, whose principal role is to ensure our council homes remain safe, compliant, and well-maintained for tenants in relation to gas safety.

This is a key position within Asset Management, combining technical expertise, leadership, and service delivery. You will play a vital role in maintaining high standards across our housing stock while delivering an excellent, customer-focused service.

About you

As a Senior Gas Officer, you will:

  • Be a fully qualified gas engineer with current domestic gas ACS elements, CCN1, CENWAT1, HTR1, CKR1
  • Lead the delivery of gas servicing, maintenance, and compliance across housing stock
  • Provide expert technical advice on gas-related issues and complex repairs
  • Manage contractor performance and budgets in accordance with contractual requirements
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and safety standards
  • Lead, support, and develop a team of technical staff

About the role

As our next Senior Gas Officer, you will be part of a team responsible for ensuring the safety, compliance, and maintenance of approximately 41,000 properties with gas installations across the city.

  • You will bring strong technical knowledge and experience, with a clear understanding of landlord gas safety responsibilities
  • You will build strong working relationships with contractors, stakeholders, and internal teams
  • You will lead a team to deliver high-performing, customer-focused services
  • You will contribute to continuous improvement and service development
  • You will attend Magistrate Court to obtain gas access warrants on a regular basis to ensure that our residents and homes remain safe

This role is integral to the Asset Management service, ensuring residents live in safe, compliant homes while supporting the council’s wider housing objectives

Job purpose

To act as the technical lead in delivering a safe, compliant, and customer-focused gas service across council housing. The role provides expert support on gas-related issues, manages contractors and service providers, and ensures effective programme delivery aligned to service standards, budgets, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Act as technical lead for the frontline delivery of gas services in line with council standards, values, and priorities
  • Ensure all service delivery complies with legal, regulatory, contractual, and internal requirements
  • Deliver customer-focused services that demonstrate value for money and continuous improvement
  • Manage day-to-day contractor and internal service provider performance
  • Plan, implement, and monitor programmes of work within agreed timescales and resources
  • Manage delegated budgets and control expenditure in line with financial profiles
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, contractors, and partners
  • Provide technical support and solutions to complex gas-related issues
  • Ensure robust audit, compliance, and risk management arrangements are in place
  • Lead service improvements and innovation aligned with council objectives

Qualifications

Full Current Gas ACS accreditation: CCN1, CENWAT1, HTR1, CKR1.

This post requires the holder to hold a current drivers licence

Essential requirements Candidates will only be shortlisted if they can demonstrate that they meet all the following essential requirements.

  • Minimum HNC/HND in building/construction or equivalent experience
  • Degree in Building/Construction or equivalent experience
  • Detailed knowledge of gas services, installation, maintenance and landlord responsibilities
