Introduction to the role of the team  
Working within Leeds City Arts, Event’s & Venues alongside programming and operational teams, the candidate will be responsible for the technical provision provided within LCC venues alongside a small team of permanent and casual technicians. 
 
Your role 
 
To help manage and develop technical operations, ensuring the highest standards of technical provision and providing support and satisfaction for users of the Council’s public performance venues. You will be required to work across the portfolio of venues, currently Leeds Town Hall, Carriageworks Theatre, and Pudsey Civic Hall, along with any additional venues in the future. Currently this post is based at the Carriageworks Theatre. 

Responsibilities

  • To provide full audio, lighting, stage and audio-visual support for performances and events including safe rigging, de-rigging and operation of audio, lighting, staging and video equipment throughout Leeds CC venues.
  • To provide technical and artistic support both within the Arts, Events & Venues service, and throughout LCC.
  • To provide the same for all professional and amateur companies, commercial and other ad hoc users of LCC venues.
  • To work closely with the Operational and other Arts, Events & Venues teams, to assist in the preparation of areas for meetings, conferences, and events as required.
  • To adhere to all relevant current legislation and to undertake the duties of the post in accordance with the Council’s Policies e.g. Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Green Strategy, Health & Safety Legislation, etc.

NB: shifts are offered on an ad hoc basis according to operational needs; there are no minimum gaurantee hours / shifts offered with this post.

Job Description 

Job purpose 

To ensure the highest standards of technical provision, support and satisfaction for users of the Council’s public performance venues. You will be required to work across the portfolio of venues, currently Leeds Town Hall, Carriageworks Theatre, and Pudsey Civic Hall, along with any additional future venues. This post is currently based at the Carriageworks Theatre. 

Responsibilities  

  • To provide full audio, lighting, stage and audio-visual support for performances and events including safe rigging, de-rigging and operation of audio, lighting, staging and video equipment 
  • To provide technical and artistic support both within the Arts, Events & Venues service, and throughout LCC. To provide the same for all professional and amateur companies, commercial and other ad hoc users of LCC venues. 
  • To act as duty technician alongside full-time Venues Technician for visiting companies and to help ensure the smooth running of fit ups, get outs and performances, in line with both visiting company requirements and the relevant health and safety legislation. 
  • To ensure the needs of the venues and its users are met by assisting the technical team in planning,for future productions, cleaning of work areas and maintenance of technical equipment. 
  • To work closely with the Operational Team and other Arts, Events & Venues Teams to assist in the preparation of areas for meetings and conferences and functions. 
  • To adhere to all relevant current legislation and to undertake the duties of the post in accordance with the Council’s Policies e.g. Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Green Strategy, Health & Safety Legislation, etc.

    Qualifications 

    • A good standard of basic education i.e. GCSE Maths & English 
    • Technical Theatre qualification or relevant technical qualification preferred and/or suitable level of working experience

    Essential requirements  

    It is essential that the candidate should be able to demonstrate the following criteria for the post within the context of the specific role duties and responsibilities:  

    Knowledge required  

    • A good standard of rigging & operation of theatre lighting  (ETC Ion console experience preferred) for multiple disciplines. 
    • A good broad knowledge of venue audio systems including, rigging and operation 
    • Knowledge of stage management in a theatre / venue setting 
    • Operation of AV systems and software including Qlab 

    Experience required  

    • Relevant technical experience working in a theatre environment 
    • Confident operation of audio & lighting consoles pref Ion ETC & A&H Avantis for a range of events 
    • Experience of carrying out basic electrical maintenance and testing 
    • Experience of working collaboratively with non-professional theatre users 

    Skills required 

    • Able to work flexibly across different work locations and areas as appropriate.  
    • Excellent communication skills 
    • Ability to work both unsupervised, and as part of a team 
    • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines 
    • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel etc)

    Desirable requirements 

    It is desirable that the candidate should be able to demonstrate the following criteria for the post within the context of the specific role duties and responsibilities:  Candidates are not required to meet all the desirable requirements however these may be used to distinguish between acceptable candidates. 

     Desirable skills  

    • Design and operation of LX for theatre, musical theatre, dance, & corporate events 
    • Design and operation of audio for theatrical / musical productions pref. using Allen & Heath Avensis console (or similar) 
    • Operation of counterweight flying system 
    • Good AV knowledge including hybrid meeting, live event streaming, video and sound editing.
