Business Administration Service (BAS) is responsible for administrative staff providing professional administrative services to a wide range of teams and service areas across the whole of the Council. The BAS aims to deliver efficient and modern administrative services to support the delivery of Council services to the Citizens of Leeds and to help achieve the Best City Ambition.

About the role
This role provides admin support for the Leeds Youth Justice service which consists of practitioners from health, probation, youth justice, youth work, social work, family support, education, housing, and policing. Supported by the admin team, the service improves outcomes for young people by preventing offending and re-offending. The service has responsibility for the Leeds Youth Court which operates for the whole of West Yorkshire, processing cases from Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, Calderdale and Kirklees.
This administration role provides designated admin support for the Leeds Youth Court. Working closely with court officers the court administrator manages a central inbox, dealing with queries from these areas, youth justice services across the country and the youth custody service, to ensure court records are kept up to date. You will thrive on being part of a team that supports our most vulnerable children. This is a rewarding role but does require resilience due to the nature of safeguarding content.
The role is fully office-based (5 days per week Monday – Friday) but with occasional home working depending on service need. There may be times when you will be asked to work from an alternative office location.
This is a highly rewarding role which contributes to the safety and security of vulnerable children. Due to the nature of the confidential and sensitive information disclosed and discussed the postholder will require a high level of emotional resilience and be skilled in the governance of confidential information.

Job Description
Job Purpose:
The Business Administration Service provides administration support activities to a wide range of teams and services across the council.
We help the council to streamline operations by redesigning processes, reviewing models of delivery to enable better sharing of resources and exploiting existing or introducing new technology to modernise the way we work.
Our staff use a range of computer programmes and systems to support services which include those working with teams based across the council in a number of different administration roles. The role involves hybrid working (home/office dependant on service need), potentially working face-to-face with customers and working within the council boundaries as required. Specific job purposes for all Business Administration Teams are detailed below. Further details regarding the vacancy you have applied for are detailed in the advert.
Responsibilities for Grade:
- Supervise and develop staff to ensure work is prioritised and carried out effectively and efficiently to ensure deadlines are met to high standards.
- Manage your own workload and meet targets whilst maintaining quality as part of a team.
- Assist with the presentation of a variety of information in a clear and concise way with high attention to detail – through both written reports and verbally.
- Experience of adhering to legislative business, financial, audit, and operational requirements of the service, and the impact on its day-to-day work.
- Knowledge of adhering to procedures and legislation relating to confidential information and financial regulations.
- Experience of dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
- Establish and maintain records, accurately entering and retrieving information.
- A commitment to the continuous improvement of quality standards, business procedures and processes through continuous review and development.
- Work flexibly and move within service areas – working at different locations depending on service demand.

This role supports the Youth Justice Service to improve outcomes for young people by preventing offending and re-offending. The Service is made up of professionals from health, probation, youth justice, social work, education, and police backgrounds. You will be required to manage your own busy workload as well as ensuring day-to-day deadlines and priorities for the team are met, such as keeping court records up to date, minuting statutory panel meetings and covering area bases. Attention to detail and confidentiality is essential. You will be able to work well with colleagues across the organisation including business admin, youth justice and social care, and with partners including the police and the courts. The role also involves some contact with young people accessing the service.
