Adaptation Team Leader
Kent County Council
Role Responsibility
Climate change and its impacts are already affecting Kent’s communities, infrastructure and natural environment, increasing the need for coordinated, long term action to build resilience and reduce emissions. Kent County Council’s Environment agenda plays a central role in addressing these challenges and supporting delivery of county wide and corporate climate objectives.
We are seeking an Adaptation Team leader to lead the development and delivery of climate adaptation and low carbon projects across the Council and in partnership with districts, boroughs and external organisations. This strategic role will act as the lead for the Council’s Adaptation Plan, supporting delivery of the Kent Environment Strategy and the Energy and Low Emissions Strategy, and embedding climate considerations across services.
The role will lead and manage the Adaptation Team, overseeing work programmes and priorities to ensure projects are effectively developed, monitored and delivered. You will manage a portfolio of climate, adaptation and low carbon projects at all stages of the project lifecycle, from early assessment and business case development through to delivery, evaluation and closure.
A key element of the role is building and maintaining strong working relationships across the Kent local authority network and with public and private sector partners. You will coordinate activity across partners, provide specialist advice and support to managers across the Council, and help drive collaborative approaches to delivering jointly owned strategies and plans.
You will act as the strategic lead for monitoring, reviewing and updating the Adaptation Plan, ensuring it remains focused on delivery and demonstrates genuine progress. The role also involves supporting commissioning activity where required, and contributing to external funding bids to support the delivery of climate and adaptation objectives.
You will have the ability to communicate clearly with a wide range of audiences, resolve complex and sensitive issues, and provide clear advice and reporting to senior managers.
If we receive a sufficient number of applications, we reserve the right to close the vacancy early.
