Role Responsibility

Kent County Council is recruiting two experienced finance staff members to join its Finance Operations service within the Accounts Payable and Control teams. These roles support the accurate management of public money and help ensure payments and income are processed correctly and on time. We are looking for people with strong attention to detail, sound judgement, and a positive approach to working in a busy public sector environment where accuracy, controls, and good service are essential.
About the Roles
We are recruiting for the following positions:
1. Accounts Payable Team
Process high volume of invoices and payment requests accurately and efficiently, in line with agreed performance standards.
Ensuring transactions comply with internal financial controls, authorised procedures, and audit requirements.
Identifying and resolving invoice discrepancies, working constructively with suppliers and internal budget holders.
Maintaining clear audit trails and accurate system records.
Contributing to continuous improvement within Accounts Payable processes.
2. Control Team
Accurately raise and cancel Accounts Receivable (AR) invoices within strict SLAs.
Manage supplier setup and amendments in the Accounts Payable (AP) system.
Handle AR and AP queries with professionalism and clarity.
Process multiple daily payment runs.
Follow strict financial controls and procedures as set by internal audit and compliance standards.
Reconcile and monitor Imprest accounts, in line with internal policy’s and controls.
Administer the council’s purchase card scheme, including card setup, amendments and supporting reconciliations to ensure policy compliance.
What We’re Looking For
Proven experience in high-volume data entry within a finance environment.
Strong working knowledge of financial systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, or similar).
Exceptional accuracy, speed, and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
Excellent communication skills for dealing with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Strong time management and organisational skills under pressure.
