Role Responsibility

About The Role
The Local Authority has clearly defined responsibilities for supporting children and young people aged 0–25 with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). As an EHC Casework Officer, you will manage a defined caseload within a geographical area, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, fully integrated services to children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their families, in line with national legislation and statutory guidance.
What will you be doing?
We are recruiting to both our area-based School Age Teams and our county-wide Post-16 Team. Depending on your team, you will work closely with early years settings, schools, or Post-16 colleges and training providers. Your responsibilities will include:
Communicating regularly with education providers and partner professionals
Making minor amendments to EHCPs where appropriate
Identifying when more significant changes are required and seeking guidance from a senior officer
You will hold responsibility for a defined caseload, ensuring that Annual Reviews are planned, completed, and monitored within statutory timescales. This role requires frequent and effective communication with colleagues, education providers, and wider professionals to support positive outcomes.
This is a varied and challenging role, offering the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to children and young people’s lives. You will be supported by an established and experienced senior leadership team and will have access to ongoing learning and development opportunities. Kent County Council is committed to continuous professional development within the service.
Location
We offer hybrid working; you will be based in your local office for 2-days per week working in a local office (Brook House, Whitstable, Kroner House, Ashford, Worrall House, Kings Hill and Gravesham Civic Centre), flexibly working from home throughout the rest of the week. There will also be times when you may need to attend meetings in educational settings, other organisations, and Local Authority premises across Kent.
Please indicate on your application if you would prefer a post within school aged team, and which would be your preferred area, or our Post 16 Team.
Start Date
July 2026
Interview Date
Interviews will be held week commencing 11 May 2026; interviews will be remote and will involve a written task. Due to the time constraints, we are unable to offer alternative dates.
