Independent Living Assessor - 1 Year Fixed Term
Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea
Support people to live with dignity, choice and independence
At Kensington and Chelsea, we’re all in – making sure every resident gets the care, support and respect they need to live as independently as possible. As an Independent Living Assessor, undertaking Carers Assessments you’ll be a key part of that mission, helping adults stay safe, supported and confident in their day-to-day lives.
What you’ll be doing:
As an Independent Living Assessor within the Complex Care Adult Social Care Service, you will work 36 hours per week across five days, supporting adults with care and support needs to maximise their independence and wellbeing.
The role includes supporting the Duty Service, acting as a first point of contact for residents seeking access to Adult Social Care. You will provide timely information, advice and support, ensuring residents are directed to the most appropriate services and interventions.
You will also undertake a range of administrative and coordination tasks that contribute to the effective and efficient delivery of the service. This includes maintaining accurate records, updating case management systems, preparing documentation, and ensuring information is recorded in a timely and professional manner.
The post is based in a team, which consists of a Team Manager, Advanced Social Work Practitioner, Social Workers and Independent Living Assessors.
You will work closely with colleagues across Adult Social Care, as well as health and care professionals, to promote a multidisciplinary approach that delivers person-centred outcomes for residents.

What you’ll bring
You’ll have experience supporting adults in a care, housing or community setting — perhaps as a support worker, carer or housing officer. You’ll understand the realities of working with vulnerable people and bring a calm, practical and compassionate approach to your work.
You’ll also need to be organised, confident working independently and skilled at juggling priorities. Good IT skills are essential, along with strong communication — especially when working with adults from a wide range of cultures, languages and backgrounds.
You don’t need a formal social work qualification to succeed in this role. What matters most is your ability to listen, your understanding of what good care looks like and your commitment to helping people live well.
