As an Independent Living Assessor, you’ll be a key part of that mission, helping adults stay safe, supported and confident in their day-to-day lives.

What you’ll be doing:

Working closely with our Occupational Therapists and Social Workers in the reablement team, you’ll carry out basic assessments of people’s capabilities and help them find the motivation and support to progress. By getting to know people as individuals and understanding their specific circumstances, you’ll deliver person-centred care.

Expect to manage your own caseload of service users, for whom you’ll recommend equipment, set and monitor goals and complete Care Act 2014 assessments.

You will help out with screening referrals and answering phones as part of our duty rota.

You’ll offer Carers Assessments to those supporting loved ones and always be alert to safeguarding concerns, following up in line with procedures when needed.

Throughout, you’ll work alongside health and care professionals, including GPs, district nurses, occupational therapists and physios, to make sure residents receive joined-up, holistic support.

What you’ll bring

You’ll have experience supporting adults in a care, housing or community setting — perhaps as a support worker, carer or housing officer. You’ll understand the realities of working with vulnerable people and bring a calm, practical and compassionate approach to your work.

You’ll also need to be organised, confident working independently and skilled at juggling priorities. Good IT skills are essential, along with strong communication — especially when working with adults from a wide range of cultures, languages and backgrounds.

You don’t need a formal social work qualification to succeed in this role. What matters most is your ability to listen, your understanding of what good care looks like and your commitment to helping people live well.
