Enjoy great scope to grow while influencing transport planning in a vibrant borough.

Through development management and in supporting the delivery of transport policies and projects, you will work closely with planning colleagues to negotiate, secure, and help to deliver place-shaping projects.

About Us

At Kensington and Chelsea Council, we put local people at the heart of everything we do. It’s essential for us to make the right decisions about planning applications and works on the highway, balancing considerations including the needs of the public, the environment, and the local economy. That’s why transport planners in our Highway and Regulatory Services Department have such varied, vital roles to play.

Working Style

You’ll be based in the Borough for three days a week, blending collaborative on-site teamwork with flexible home working. Whether you’re out on site or working alongside colleagues in the office, you’ll play an important role in shaping spaces that benefit our local community every day.

What you’ll do doing

As a Transport Planner, you’ll help to make improvements happen on the streets of Kensington and Chelsea. Joining a service that’s at the heart of place making, you will enjoy great scope to make a positive impact, as well as excellent opportunities for progression. This is an ideal role if you’re keen to grow and develop valuable skills, while making a real difference to our public realm.

You will play a key part in preparing transport observations for applications made under legislation including the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, Highways Act 1980, and Business and Planning Act 2020. From construction traffic management plans to pavement licences, you’ll negotiate, implement and monitor legal agreements around planning applications and works on the highway.

You’ll also be actively involved in the transport policy work needed to inform development management processes. Your analysis of traffic data will help us to understand the effects of schemes, incidents or development works on the highway. Along the way, you will meet with applicants and provide high-quality advice to colleagues and the public.

For further details, please review the Job Description and Person Specification.

Crucially, you are an adaptable individual who is keen to learn.

You have the confidence to organise and deliver work with minimum supervision. Highly literate and numerate, you have the ability to interpret plans, draft correspondence and reports, and influence people at all levels by clearly and persuasively communicating your recommendations.
