Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea

London, United Kingdom£58,899Full timeCloses: 2026-08-16T22:59:00+00:00

Lead major capital projects and drive sustainability for the Lancaster West Estate community.

We’re all in to transform local housing. As our Quantity Surveyor, you’ll manage vital investments to deliver high-quality, sustainable and energy-efficient homes for Lancaster West Estate residents.

Working Style: You’ll be based across two offices within the Borough for three days a week, spending time on-site and collaborating closely with your team and project managers.

What you’ll be doing

Every day, you’ll take full ownership of the commercial and cost management aspects of our major capital housing investment programme on the Lancaster West Estate. Managing expenditure on up to twelve active projects, you’ll balance cost plans and ensure funding timelines are met to deliver our green sustainability schemes, such as triple glazing and high levels of insulation. Your daily work will include conducting site inspections, certifying valuations and raising purchase orders within our financial systems.

Collaboration and leadership are central to this role. You’ll work closely with project managers to align budgets, address contractor performance challenges and secure grant funding to meet deadlines. Acting with competence and fairness, you’ll guide contract administration, resolve commercial risks and line manage and develop a junior member of the commercial team. Your work ensures residents receive top-quality, low-energy homes while upholding strict health, safety and financial regulations.

What you’ll bring

You’ll hold a degree or master's in quantity surveying and possess industry experience in a similar position. Bringing a balanced background from both the private and public sectors, you’ll have extensive experience in contract administration and cost management for complex housing or planned investment programmes. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are vital, as you’ll collaborate with internal teams, legal specialists, contractors and external agencies.

You’ll need strong organisational skills, excellent attention to detail and advanced capabilities in Excel to analyse tender returns and produce detailed monthly expenditure reports. A positive, forward-thinking attitude is essential for navigating a financially challenging and political local authority environment. Because this role requires a frequent on-site presence across the estate to audit works, you’ll be comfortable actively moving around construction sites unaided during inspections.
