About The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen within Hounslow Youth Justice Service. We are looking to recruit to an experienced Operational Manager.
We are committed to improving outcomes for children, supporting victims and building safer communities within Hounslow. We work collaboratively with key partners within our multi-disciplinary team to address the complex needs and risks faced by children and young people.We are committed to working with children using the Child First and Trauma informed practice.
You will be joining an established management team and will be able to demonstrate an ability to motivate and support staff to achieve best possible outcomes for children using supervision, audits and quality assurance to steer practice.
In addition, you will have an excellent understanding within the criminal Justice setting and be able to demonstrate the needs of the child, victim work and the needs of the public within our work.
You will be able to represent the Youth Justice Service at professional and multi-agency meetings including community safety fora, Strategy meetings, Reviews for Children Looked After, Child Protection Conferences and Core Group meetings.

About The Team You’ll Be Working In
Hounslow Youth Justice Service (YJS) has a duty to protect the public and to safeguard children from harm, and this role forms an integral part of meeting this duty.
The Youth Justice Service is a multi-disciplinary Team, which includes Social Workers, Probation Officers, Police Officers, Substance Mis-Use Workers, and Health professionals and works closely with a wide range of other professionals, including the Courts. The Service sits within the wider Children’s Specialist and Safeguarding Department.
The Team is based at Hounslow House, a modern office building in central Hounslow which is busy multi-cultural community with good transport connections. There is an opportunity for office based and home working, dependent on the needs of the service. The Team is committed to hearing the voices of the children we work with and their families to develop and improve the service we offer.
About You
As an experienced Operational Manager, you will understand the challenges affecting children and young people and how other factors such as peers or group offending can impact on this, along with positive factors that can support good outcomes for children. You have experience to provide effective, timely management oversight of casework undertaken with children, young people and their families to ensure compliance with National Standards for children in the Youth Justice System.
- You can undertake effective management of staff within the Youth Justice Service, providing personal and reflective supervision to enable staff to provide good quality interventions for children, young people and families.
- You are familiar with Quality assure assessments and plans for children and young people known to the Youth Justice Service; ensure that they are of a good standard i.e timely, take account of children and young people’s diversity and its impact on their lives, in line with inspection standards and the likelihood of reoffending, safety for victims & the community and safety for the child.
- Ensure that case records are maintained in line with National Standards and Inspection standards, with record management oversight that is effective in guiding work with children and families.
- Ensure that work undertaken with children and young people is reviewed flexibly, taking account of significant changes in children and young people’s lives, with plans amended as required.
- Be accountable for designated areas of the Youth Justice Service including, where required, chairing case meetings, professionals’ meetings and Out of Court or Referral Order Panels or work with other services.
