About The Role

This role is central to the day to day operation of a residential establishment, helping to ensure a clean, safe, and well run environment for children and young people. Working as part of the wider residential team, you will be responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and laundry provision, supporting both the wellbeing and dignity of residents.

The role involves cleaning designated areas of the home, including young people’s bedrooms, carrying out laundry duties such as washing, drying, and ironing, and safely operating domestic type laundry and cleaning equipment. You will manage cleaning materials efficiently, follow Health and Safety procedures at all times, and promptly report any hazards, defects, or concerns.

You will work closely with staff and young people to understand individual needs, adapt your work flexibly to the demands of the service, and ensure all relevant policies and procedures are followed. This is a practical, hands on role that plays a vital part in creating a safe, welcoming, and hygienic living environment within a residential care setting.

About The Team You’ll Be Working In

The Children’s Safeguarding and Specialist Services team is dedicated to protecting and promoting the welfare of vulnerable children and young people. Its core purpose is to provide safe, nurturing, and high-quality care environments that support children’s development, emotional wellbeing, and long-term outcomes.

You’ll be joining a newly formed, forward-thinking residential care team that’s committed to delivering high-quality, child-centred care. Led by the Residential Group Manager, the team will include:

• Residential Manager

• Deputy Managers

• Senior Residential Support Workers

• Residential Support Workers

• A Chef/Cook

• A Handyperson

• A Domestic Cleaner

Together, you’ll work collaboratively to uphold the highest standards of care, guided by Hounslow’s values and the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015. The team is passionate about safeguarding, inclusion, and empowering children and young people to achieve their full potential.

You’ll also work closely with social workers, education providers, healthcare professionals, and families to ensure holistic support and continuity of care.

This team plays a vital role in:

• Delivering statutory care and safeguarding responsibilities

• Ensuring compliance with national regulations and Ofsted standards

• Creating tailored care plans that reflect each child’s individual needs and aspirations

The impact of this work is significant for children and young people to benefit and have stable, supportive relationships, improved life chances, and a sense of belonging within their communities.

The Registered Manager will report to senior leadership within the department and will directly supervise the Assistant Team Manager. They will also collaborate closely with social workers, health professionals, and education providers to ensure holistic care planning and service delivery.

This is a dynamic and forward-thinking team where professionals are supported to grow through structured supervision, training opportunities, and involvement in service development initiatives. The Registered Manager will be a key driver of quality and innovation, helping shape the future of residential care provision.

About You

• You’re someone who takes pride in your work and understands the importance of cleanliness, safety, and organisation in a residential environment.

• You recognise how a clean, well run home supports the wellbeing, dignity, and comfort of children and young people, and you’re motivated by contributing to that every day.

• You’re reliable, self motived, and able to plan and organise your own workload, working flexibly to meet the needs of the service.

• You’re comfortable using cleaning and laundry equipment safely, managing supplies responsibly, and maintaining high standards even in a busy or pressurised environment.

• You work well as part of a team and communicate respectfully with colleagues and residents, negotiating individual cleaning or laundry needs sensitively and appropriately.

• You understand the importance of confidentiality, safeguarding, equality, and professional boundaries, and you are confident following policies and procedures at all times.

• You’re safety focused and proactive, able to identify and report hazards, defects, incidents, or concerns promptly. You’re open to supervision, willing to undertake training, and committed to learning and continuous improvement
