  • About the role

  • Do you want to make a difference in the lives of families with young children? Then this role could be for you.

Join our dynamic Best Start Family Hubs & Children’s Centres team and play a vital role in giving every child the best start in life. This is an exciting opportunity to plan, deliver, and evaluate high‑quality community and centre‑based activities that nurture young children’s learning, development, and health—all while supporting families through the crucial Start for Life period, from pregnancy to age 2 and beyond.

    What You’ll Do

    • Lead engaging universal and targeted sessions for children up to 8 years old, helping families to strengthen early learning, attachment, infant feeding, and parental mental health.
    • Plan, deliver, and evaluate high‑quality early years activities aligned with the Early Years Foundation Stage.
    • Provide tailored support to families by assessing needs, signposting services, and delivering targeted interventions where required.
    • Create warm, inclusive, and culturally sensitive environments that welcome all families.
    • Maintain safe, stimulating spaces—setting up resources, completing risk assessments, preparing healthy snacks, and ensuring excellent hygiene and safety standards.
    • Support safeguarding and child protection through knowledge of policies and reporting procedures.
    • Work collaboratively across the team and wider partner services, contributing to community outreach and Start for Life initiatives.
    • Offer nurturing, responsive care in the crèche, supporting children’s individual needs.
    • Contribute to accurate data recording (EHM) and uphold GDPR-compliant information sharing.

    About You

    You will have:

    • A recognised qualification at NVQ Level 2 or above in a related profession (e.g. social work, education, youth work, child and family development).
    • A minimum of three years’ experience working directly with families and children.
    • A strong understanding of safeguarding and protecting families.
    • Knowledge of the educational, developmental and health needs of children under five.
    • The ability to assess and make appropriate recommendations about children and families.
    • Good written and IT skills to ensure accurate record keeping.
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport quickly with families.
    • A non-judgemental, supportive approach.
    • Experience of multi-agency working with partners from health, education, social care and the voluntary sector.
    • The ability to form and maintain professional relationships and boundaries to ensure effective engagement in services.
