Engineer Traffic Schemes

We are seeking an experienced Engineer to primarily support with development control, such as planning applications and Highway Legal Agreements. In addition, the successful applicant may support the delivery of highways, traffic and parking schemes.
Reporting to a Senior Engineer and or/ the Schemes Manager, you will support the Senior Engineer leading on development control by reviewing and responding to planning applications and supporting and leading on Highway Legal agreements (S278 and S38), this will include:
- Manage and assess highway and development-related applications and licences under the Highways Act 1980 and Town and Country Planning Act 1990.
- Carry out technical reviews and provide engineering recommendations to ensure compliance with current standards and specifications.
- Liaise with Legal Services, developers, stakeholders and public sector partners on highway development schemes and associated agreements.
- Prepare reports, cost estimates and attend meetings representing the Highway Authority where required
The role also involves contributing to a range of engineering projects for traffic and parking schemes, including assisting with budgets, preparing certificates, final accounts and cost statements, and supporting the successful delivery of commissioned works.
You will work closely with colleagues, external partners and stakeholders, demonstrating an innovative approach to problem solving and effective relationship management. Occasional work outside normal office hours may be required, including site visits, meetings and monitoring works, up to 36 hours per week.
About you
- Proven experience within a development control environment preferred but not essential.
- Experience working with budgets and supporting financial reporting
- Background in highways, traffic and parking services
- Ability to work effectively with staff at all levels
- Recognised professional engineering qualification or equivalent technical experience
The role will involve site visits in varying weather conditions and timescales; suitable transport arrangements are the responsibility of the post holder.
