Overview

We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Pensions Technical Expert to play a key role in supporting and developing the Council’s pension systems and processes. Acting as the subject matter expert for pensions technology, reporting and data management, you will help ensure that pension services are delivered efficiently, accurately and in line with legislative requirements.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced pensions professional who enjoys working with systems, analysing data, driving continuous improvement and supporting colleagues to deliver exceptional service.

What You'll Be Doing

In this varied and rewarding role, you will:

  • Act as the technical lead for pension systems, including Altair and related applications.
  • Manage, maintain and develop pension systems and databases to ensure they remain effective, reliable and fit for purpose.
  • Lead and support system upgrades, enhancements, testing and user acceptance activities.
  • Drive automation and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery and self-service functionality.
  • Produce, analyse and validate key pension reports and management information.
  • Lead on major annual and cyclical projects, including Annual Benefit Statements, pension increases and fund valuations.
  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity and effective management of pension data.
  • Work closely with HR, Payroll, IT colleagues, actuaries and external system providers to deliver seamless pension services.
  • Provide training, coaching and ongoing support to Pension Administration colleagues.
  • Contribute to the development of robust, efficient and customer-focused pension services.
  • Provide support across the pensions and payroll reporting teams as required.

About You

We are looking for someone who combines strong technical expertise with excellent communication and problem-solving skills. You will be confident working with complex pension data and systems while building effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

You will bring:

  • Strong knowledge of public sector pension schemes and pension legislation, ideally within the LGPS environment.
  • Experience of pension administration systems and related ICT platforms.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong reporting capability.
  • Experience of HR and pension systems, databases and management information reporting.
  • Excellent analytical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Experience of identifying, investigating and resolving complex system and data issues.
  • The ability to explain technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with internal teams, external providers and stakeholders.
  • Experience of training, mentoring or supporting colleagues.
  • Resilience, adaptability and a commitment to delivering high-quality customer service.
