Overview

The London Borough of Harrow is seeking an experienced and motivated Environmental Protection Team Leader to play a pivotal role in ensuring that individuals, businesses, and premises comply with statutory requirements and adhere to relevant council policies and procedures relating to Environmental Protection. The successful candidate will lead the delivery of a high-quality, responsive service, taking responsibility for investigating complaints, conducting inspections, and implementing all necessary follow-up actions to secure compliance across a range of commercial and environmental legislation. Acting as a duly authorised officer of the Council, the postholder will represent Harrow in both enforcement and advisory capacities, working collaboratively with partners, stakeholders, and local organisations to promote best practice and enhance the safety, health, and well-being of residents, businesses, and visitors.


In addition to operational duties, the role requires effective oversight of Environmental Protection functions within the service, ensuring that all activities are delivered in line with the Council’s statutory obligations and internal policies. The Team Leader will be responsible for managing resources efficiently, driving performance, and supporting the development of staff to maximise service outcomes. A strong focus on partnership working, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement will be essential to maintaining high standards and contributing to a safer and cleaner borough.


About You

The successful candidate will have: 

  • Have an excellent knowledge of the range of legislation enforced by the Environmental Protection team.
  • Full current driving licence.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a demanding and pressurised environment independently and as a team.
  • High standard of written and verbal presentation and communication skills.
  • Competent in the use of standard computer systems.
  • Aptitude for the technical and legal aspects of the discipline.
  • Inclusive team worker who can foster partnerships work Collaboratory across teams to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Ability to work outside normal working hours as may be necessary including response to emergency situation.
