Overview

The London Borough of Harrow's Children's Services Directorate is looking for a Residential Support Worker (RSW) to work under the direction of the Registered Manager and Deputy Team Managers at The Firs, in order to provide a high quality service for children/young people with mild/moderate/severe learning disabilities, including those with physical disabilities, challenging behaviour or autism in order to support their families/carers.

 

Tasks include taking lead in a crisis on shift and being responsible for monitoring and supporting staff by providing direction, feedback and consistency to all members of the shift. You will also ensure children’s individual and generic health and educational needs are supported and ensure they are worked in accordance with the relevant plans, EHC plans, The Firs care plans or LAC care plans.

 

The postholder will share in the physical/emotional/developmental care of the children/young people who are the responsibility of the establishment, under the supervision of the Registered Manager/Deputy Team Manager/Senior Residential Support Worker, which is in line with the centre’s Statement of Purpose.


About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • Sound knowledge of childcare law i.e. the Children Act 1989 & 2004, the Children’s Home Regulations and Quality Standards 2015.
  • An understanding of child development, behaviour and the disabled child.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Ability to liaise with other professionals and agencies.
  • IT Skills – Word, Excel, email, internet and IT software such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, D365.
  • Ability to work with children/young people and families from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds and those with special needs.
  • Ability to Gastrostomy feed the children/young people or the willingness to take part in the training within a timescale.
  • Level 3 Diploma for Residential Child Care (England) or a qualification that the registered person considers to be equivalent. If you do not have this, you will have the willingness to attain it within the relevant timescale.
