Workshop Supervisor Master Technician

The London Borough of Harrow is seeking a Workshop Supervisor Master Technician. The purpose of this role is to diagnose, maintain and repair vehicles in accordance with the strict H&S regulations, O Licence requirements and DVSA standards. To support the strategic planning of fleet operations and apply professional technical methods and standards. To supervise the delivery of the operational framework for the development, implementation, and promotion of fleet service initiatives within the Council. Assist in developing and implementing management processes for the effective and efficient use of resources.
You will actively contribute to Council-wide and Directorate initiatives by implementing operational priorities, including the coordinated use of vehicles and other service resources to best meet the Council’s operational objectives and the needs of Harrow’s citizens and businesses. Assist in the development of and supervise staff within the workshop, and coordinate the Council’s overall approach to achieve positive outcomes for the Community. To assist, support and communicate with the Service Manager during maintenance/repair processes. To produce, complete and submit all associated documentation in an expected timely manner. Have a willingness to accept technical/leadership training from internal and external sources. To hold relevant licences to drive and or test vehicles and equipment. To hold an O Licence and have knowledge of H&S regulations and DVSA standards for both Light Goods & Heavy Goods Vehicles, and observe the Council’s documented safe working practices and risk assessment.
About You
To be successful in this role you would need to have the below skills & experience:
- Hold a current UK Drivers Licence and have a vehicle available for use.
- Hold a current UK Heavy Goods Vehicle Licence.
- To undertake MOT testing, Classes 4/5/7.
- Experience of ensuring 'O' Licence & DVSA requirements are adhered to in relation to service vehicles and their operation.
- Ability to adapt to changing demands to ensure that objectives are met, overcome problems, and make well-considered decisions.
- Experience in dealing with conflicting demands and deadlines both within their roles but also others outside of their direct control.
- Experience of successfully supervising H&S issues within the workforce.
- Experience of successfully supervising a large team.
- Experience of performance-based supervision, including challenging behaviour through regular meetings, achieving positive outcomes whilst maintaining effective working relationships and service delivery standards.
- Experience of working in a customer focused resident facing service.
- Acts as a role model to others in the team, sharing knowledge and experience when necessary whilst respecting and valuing the contribution other team members’ experiences can bring.
