About Haringey

Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.

Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.

About the Role

As Senior Cabinet Advisor, you will play a key role at the heart of the Council’s political leadership, providing strategic advice and support to the Leader, Cabinet Members and the wider Leader & Cabinet Office, helping to support the new administration formed following the May elections as it delivers its priorities for residents.

Leading a small team of Cabinet Advisors, you will help shape priorities, coordinate political support and ensure Cabinet Members are equipped to make informed decisions. Working across a broad range of policy areas, you will provide strategic advice on decision-making, forward planning, policy development, political management, stakeholder engagement and emerging issues affecting the borough.

You will oversee the Cabinet Forward Plan, support the delivery of key political priorities and act as a trusted link between elected members, senior officers, residents and external partners. The role also includes responsibility for managing and developing Cabinet Advisors, ensuring high-quality support is delivered consistently across the administration.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced political or policy professional to operate at the centre of local government, influencing strategic outcomes and helping to deliver positive change for Haringey’s communities.

About the Team

The Leader & Cabinet Office at Haringey is a small, dynamic and highly collaborative team. We provide strategic support to the Leader and Cabinet Members, helping to translate political priorities into action across the organisation.  From our position at the centre of the Council, we have a unique view of the breadth and complexity of local government. We work closely with elected members, senior officers and partners across a wide range of services, supporting some of the borough’s most important decisions and initiatives.

About You

You will be an experienced political, policy, public affairs or local government professional with a strong understanding of how political leadership operates within a complex organisation.

You will bring:
•    A strong understanding of political management and the local government landscape.
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex issues into clear, concise advice.
•    Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
•    Experience of building effective relationships and influencing a wide range of stakeholders.
•    A sound understanding of navigating complex organisational structures and delivering outcomes through collaboration and influence.
•    Experience of leading, coaching or developing others, with the ability to support a high-performing team.
•    Sound judgement, political awareness and the ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism.
