About Haringey

Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the ‘rebel borough’ when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.

Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.

About the Role

As a Planning Officer (PO2), you will play a key role in shaping sustainable development across Haringey. You’ll manage and process a varied caseload of planning and related applications. Ranging from initial referral to final decision and appeal – while preparing high quality professional reports, recommendations, and statements. Your work will involve engaging with a range of stakeholders, providing expert planning advice and contributing to the continuous improvement of the service. This is a hands on, fast paced role where you’ll help deliver positive outcomes for local communities and support the council’s wider placemaking ambitions.

About the Team

You’ll join our Planning Service, a supportive and collaborative team within the Environment and Resident Experience directorate. Working closely with experienced planners, team managers, and elected Members – the team handles a broad mix of applications and enquiries across the borough. We work in a dynamic environment where high quality service, professional development, and constructive engagement with our communities are central to how we deliver planning in Haringey.

About You

You’re someone with a strong understanding of planning legislation, development management processes, and the ability to assess planning applications confidently and professionally. Whether you’re an exceptional graduate with experience handling applications or an early career planner looking to grow, you will need to be analytically focused and have a proactive approach to your work.

You will be comfortable managing deadlines, producing high quality written reports, and engaging effectively with applicants, residents, colleagues, and elected Members. Taking pride in delivering excellent customer care and clear, balanced advice.   Above all, you’ll be motivated to support Haringey’s sustainable development ambitions and ready to take on a varied and challenging caseload – with professional development, guidance, and on the job support available to help you strengthen your expertise and progress in your planning career.

Working for Haringey

At Haringey Council we are committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included, and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits of a diverse workforce so welcome applications from all ethnicities and communities so that we continue to make a difference to our residents and community.

Our benefits package includes a leave entitlement of 31 days + bank holidays,  hybrid working opportunities, health and wellbeing support, a generous local government pension scheme and a range of discount schemes across leisure and culture that provide both financial and money-saving discounts.
