About the role
At Hammersmith & Fulham, we are ambitious about reforming the council to ensure this is a place for everyone. Within the Housing and Neighbourhood department, we are committed to delivering efficient, high quality services. We believe our residents deserve a borough that is safe, clean and green, with services they can rely on.
We are offering an exciting opportunity to join the Supporting Vulnerable Communities service as an Income Officer.
In this role, you will be responsible for rent and income collection across all temporary accommodation tenancies, managing a designated income patch to help achieve our overall collection target of approximately £18 million. Exceeding this target will help reduce rent arrears and ensure the service remains sustainable for those who rely on it.
You will work closely with tenants to help sustain their tenancy where rent arrears occur, providing income maximisation advice to support them in meeting their accommodation charges. Where necessary, you will take appropriate recovery action to prevent arrears from escalating and initiate further proceedings if arrears continue to increase without resolution.
You will also support tenants in accessing Housing Benefit or Universal Credit, working in partnership with statutory and voluntary agencies, as well as colleagues across the housing service, to effectively manage your income patch.
We are looking for someone who is confident working with financial data and spreadsheets, with excellent organisational and communication skills. You should be comfortable managing challenging situations, possess strong negotiation skills, be self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ideally, you will have experience in an income collection role and/or working with housing benefit systems.
Our mission is to be the best council. To do this we need the best people to help build our vision. If you’re looking to develop your career in a fast-paced, professional environment whilst making a difference, then we look forward to hearing from you.
Please refer to the Role Profile for more information.
