IT Implementation Specialist
Job Introduction
The salary for this full-time, 12-month fixed-term position is £53,713 per annum, based on a 36-hour working week.
We are excited to be hiring an IT Implementation Specialist to join Surrey Fire and Rescue Service at a key point in its transition to a new Fire and Rescue Authority.
This role will be based at Woodhatch Place, Reigate, with travel required across the Surrey Fire and Rescue Service estate. You will also work closely with suppliers, contractors, partner authorities, technical teams and senior stakeholders.
About the role
This role is intended to support and coordinate the transition of IT services to the new Fire and Rescue Authority, ahead of vesting day on 1 April 2027.
Working as part of the Local Government Reorganisation programme, you will act as a key link between Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, the SFRS User Experience Team, Surrey County Council IT, partner authorities, suppliers and senior managers.
You will help ensure that mission-critical and essential operational systems are ready to support safe, legal and effective services for the new authority.
A key part of the role will involve understanding and coordinating complex IT architecture, identifying which services need to be disaggregated or remain hosted, and ensuring that risks, dependencies and operational impacts are clearly understood and managed.
You will support planning and workflows across both mission-critical operational systems and wider essential systems, helping to ensure a smooth transition while maintaining operational service delivery.
Your responsibilities will include
:
project managing planning and workflows for the transition of operational IT systems;
helping to understand and detangle complex IT infrastructure and service architecture;
identifying risks, issues and dependencies, and escalating these clearly to senior stakeholders;
supporting the configuration of system structures, including user groups, data hierarchies and workflows;
managing access and permissions activity, including user access audits and role-based controls;
working closely with internal IT teams, partner authorities, suppliers and contractors;
supporting change management activity and helping staff and stakeholders through the transition;
translating complex technical information into clear updates and recommendations for senior managers;
helping to ensure quality of service for all users throughout the transition.
To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence:
sound IT infrastructure knowledge and experience, including Microsoft 365, Azure, identity and access management, infrastructure platforms, networks, cyber security controls and line-of-business application architecture;
experience of coordinating or supporting complex technology ecosystems across multiple organisations or services;
good project and programme management skills, with the ability to plan, organise and manage complex workstreams;
strong understanding of IT governance, risk management and dependency management in complex organisational environments;
ability to identify and manage interdependencies between systems, services, suppliers and organisational processes;
excellent communication and coordination skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders;
ability to translate complex technical issues into clear information for non-technical audiences;
proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders;
strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop practical and innovative solutions;
competent use of a range of IT tools;
degree/HNC or equivalent, or substantial relevant experience in a relevant subject area.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a major organisational transition, supporting Surrey Fire and Rescue Service to prepare for the creation of a new Fire and Rescue Authority.
If you are able to navigate complex IT infrastructure, manage change activity and support the vital work of Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, we would like to hear from you.
