About the Role
We are recruiting to a new Renters Rights Enforcement Officer role as part of our response to the Renters Rights Act.
You will play a key role in protecting tenants and improving standards in the private rented sector by investigating alleged breaches of landlord and tenant legislation. This includes concerns such as unlawful eviction, harassment, discrimination and unfair rent practices.
You will manage your own caseload, undertake investigations, gather evidence and support enforcement action, whilst also engaging with tenants and landlords to resolve issues at an early stage. You will also work closely with colleagues across Housing, Environmental Health and Legal Services.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate complaints relating to breaches of landlord and tenant legislation
- Manage a caseload of complex cases, based on risk and urgency
- Gather evidence through interviews, site visits, inspections and document review
- Prepare enforcement case files, including civil penalties and prosecution files
- Provide clear advice to tenants, landlords and agents on their rights and responsibilities
- Intervene early to prevent unlawful eviction and reduce homelessness risk
- Work collaboratively with Housing, Environmental Health, Legal Services and partners
- Attend court or tribunal proceedings where required
- Keep accurate records and contribute to service improvement
About You
We're looking for someone with:
- Experience of investigating complaints and managing casework
- Knowledge of housing or landlord and tenant legislation
- Strong communication skills
- The ability to gather and assess evidence and prepare case files
- A collaborative approach to working with colleagues and partner services
- A commitment to supporting residents and delivering fair outcomes
