Senior Educational Psychologist - Expert at Hand Lead
Royal Greenwich Council
Job Introduction
The Royal Greenwich Educational Psychology & Wellbeing Service (EPWS) is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a reflective, innovative and strategic Senior Educational Psychologist to join our hard-working, friendly and ambitious team as Expert at Hand Lead. This is a key leadership role within the service, offering the opportunity to shape, develop and evaluate one of our flagship early intervention and inclusion offers, while contributing to the wider strategic leadership of the EPWS.
As a Senior Educational Psychologist, you will be part of the service management team, contributing to the strategic planning, leadership and development of the EPWS. You will provide line management, clinical supervision and professional support to Educational Psychologists, Assistant Educational Psychologists and Trainee Educational Psychologists, while maintaining a reduced caseload that reflects your senior leadership responsibilities. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced Educational Psychologist who enjoys supporting the development of colleagues through supervision, coaching and leadership, and who is keen to influence service development at both operational and strategic levels.
A central aspect of this role will be providing strategic and operational leadership for the Expert at Hand offer. You will lead the ongoing development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the model, ensuring that schools, settings, children, young people and families receive high-quality, evidence-informed psychological support. Working collaboratively with schools, council services and wider partners, you will ensure that Expert at Hand continues to evolve in response to local need and delivers positive outcomes for children and young people.
The successful candidate will:
- Lead and coordinate the delivery, quality assurance and continuous improvement of the Expert at Hand offer.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with schools, settings, council services and partner agencies to support effective implementation of Expert at Hand.
- Support the professional development and deployment of Educational Psychologists and Assistant Educational Psychologists delivering the Expert at Hand programme.
- Lead the monitoring and evaluation of the Expert at Hand offer, using stakeholder feedback and impact data to inform ongoing development and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to service strategy, policy development and service transformation in response to emerging local and national priorities.
- Lead on identified service development priorities and represent the EPWS within local authority and multi-agency forums.
- Promote anti-racist, anti-discriminatory and culturally responsive practice across all aspects of service delivery.
Alongside your leadership responsibilities, you will continue to undertake a range of educational psychology activities, including consultation, assessment, therapeutic and intervention work, workforce development, statutory duties and support for children and young people with complex needs.
The EPWS is based at The Woolwich Centre in the heart of the Royal Borough of Greenwich. At Royal Greenwich, you will be working alongside colleagues who ensure that the best interests of children and young people are at the heart of what they do.

The EPWS offers a highly valued traded service to a range of schools, early years settings, post-16 and alternative providers, and prides itself on the effective working relationships developed with service users. As a partly traded service, we offer both the security and benefits of working for a Local Authority alongside greater opportunities to deliver a wide range of preventative work, projects and training. This helps to ensure a satisfying balance between statutory and non-statutory duties and we are pleased to have ongoing support from senior management to broaden our preventative offer.
Across the service, we promote a consultation model of service delivery, whilst also valuing and respecting the diversity of approaches and interests across the team. We value child and family-centred practices and work creatively to develop bespoke intervention plans. There are also opportunities to contribute to a range of innovative projects and service developments across the wider EPWS.
As a member of the team, you will benefit from:
- A supportive senior leadership team who are committed to the wellbeing of EPs and EPiTs across the service; wish to promote a fair and inclusive working environment; seek and are responsive to feedback; and show a strong commitment to anti-racism.
- Excellent working relationships and regular contact across the team.
- Excellent administrative support from our Psychology Support Officer.
- Opportunities to work alongside Assistant Educational Psychologists who support service delivery.
- An annual service CPD programme which includes whole-service and individual CPD time.
- Protected time for clinical supervision and CPD, including regular peer consultation groups.
- Separation of supervision and line management.
- Centrally located, environmentally friendly accommodation.
- Excellent transport links, including the Elizabeth Line.
- Opportunities for remote/hybrid working and IT equipment to support this (including a laptop or equivalent and smartphone).
- A good range of assessment resources and access to some personal assessment tools to support your work.
- Free parking space and car mileage allowance as an essential car user.
- Support from our Association of Educational Psychologists (AEP) representative (for AEP members).
- Reimbursement of HCPC registration fees.
We would like to invite applications from experienced HCPC-registered Educational Psychologists who:
- Have a successful track record of delivering high-quality educational psychology practice across a range of contexts.
- Are passionate about early intervention, inclusion and building the capacity of schools and other professionals.
- Have experience of leading projects, service developments or strategic initiatives.
- Enjoy supporting and developing colleagues through supervision, line management and coaching.
- Are interested in shaping and evaluating innovative approaches to service delivery.
- Value collaborative working and are skilled at building effective relationships with children, families, schools and partner agencies.
- Are committed to anti-racist, anti-discriminatory and child-centred practice.
- Wish to contribute to the ongoing development of the Expert at Hand model and the wider EPWS.
