The Role

Join our Neighbourhood Services team on and and use your administrative skills to help us deliver a dependable service for residents.
As a Neighbourhood Housing Assistant, you will provide vital support to managers and colleagues by keeping records accurate, monitoring actions and deadlines, preparing correspondence and reports, and bringing together evidence for audits, assurance work and performance monitoring. Your contribution will help the service demonstrate compliance with the Regulator of Social Housing’s Consumer Standards.
You will manage enquiries and shared mailboxes, coordinate information across teams and ensure urgent or sensitive matters reach the right person promptly. If you are organised, approachable, confident working with others and take pride in getting the details right, this varied role offers an excellent opportunity to make a positive contribution while developing your skills and experience.

Essential qualifications/experience

Strong administrative and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
Experience of providing administrative or coordination support in a busy office or customer-service environment.
Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records, trackers and documentation.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear emails, letters and routine reports.
Good people skills, with a professional, approachable and customer-focused manner.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and build positive working relationships with colleagues across different
services.
Confidence using Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, including shared mailboxes and spreadsheets.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
Ability to identify urgent or high-risk matters and escalate them to the appropriate manager or officer.
A good standard of literacy and numeracy.
A willingness to learn about housing services, regulatory requirements and the Consumer Standards.
Previous housing experience is not required. Experience from any administrative, customer-service, casework, compliance or regulated-service environment would be welcomed.

Local Government Reorganisation
In April 2028 Local government in Kent is moving to a new unitary council structure. If you join us now, you will be employed by Gravesham Borough Council in the first instance, but staff are expected to transfer to the new organisation under TUPE arrangements in April 2028. This means your continuity of employment and existing terms and conditions will be protected.
