Content and Forms Designer
Gravesham Borough Council
Job details
Salary: £27,664 to £29,461 per annum (inclusive of allowances)
Location: Civic Centre, Gravesend
Status: Full time, permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week
Closing date: 15 November 2026
The Role
Digital technology is revolutionising all aspects of our lives and Gravesham Borough Council is at the forefront by modernising the way in which it serves its residents.
This is an exciting career-development opportunity for someone who wants to build a career in Digital and IT services within the council’s successful Digital Team. You may be taking an early step in your digital career, moving into IT from another field, or looking to develop practical skills gained through work, study, volunteering or personal projects.
As a Content and Forms Designer, you will support the Lead Content Designer and Lead Forms Developer to maintain and improve the council’s websites, online content and digital forms. You will work with internal departments and technical colleagues to help create clear, accessible content and simple, intuitive customer journeys.
You will receive support while developing your knowledge of content management, online forms, user testing and front-end technologies such as HTML. There may also be opportunities to gain further exposure to CSS, JavaScript, web services and database integrations. We are looking for enthusiasm, curiosity, attention to detail and a genuine interest in improving online services for residents.
Key responsibilities include:
Support the creation and publication of accessible web content that meets the needs and expectations of residents.
Assist with reviewing, updating and maintaining website content so that information is clear, concise and accurate.
Work with internal departments and the Lead Content Designer to review and improve web content and encourage best practice in content publication.
Assist with designing, developing and improving intelligent web forms using the council’s Customer Experience Platform, Granicus.
Assist with user testing to gather feedback, understand the user experience and inform improvements to online services.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person with a working knowledge of HTML and a willingness to learn. You do not need to have followed a traditional IT career path; relevant evidence may come from employment, education, training, volunteering or personal projects.
To meet the approved essential criteria, you will need to demonstrate experience of using a Content Management System to create, update and maintain website content, together with experience of developing online forms. We are interested in what you can do and your potential to develop, rather than the length of time you have worked in IT.
About you
You will have strong written and verbal communication skills, a logical approach, good attention to detail and the ability to work positively with colleagues and customers.
You will be able to show practical experience of maintaining content in a Content Management System and developing online forms. This experience could have been gained in a range of settings, including work, study, volunteering or personal projects.
You will be interested in understanding user needs and creating accessible, customer-focused online content and services. Experience of complex user journeys, Jadu, SharePoint, Granicus, databases, APIs, CSS, JavaScript or jQuery is desirable but not essential.
A working knowledge of HTML is essential. We will support you to build broader skills and confidence in the technologies used by the team.
An awareness of digital accessibility is welcome, and you should be willing to learn how to apply relevant accessibility standards and legislation in practice.
