The role

St George’s Arts Centre opened in December 2021 as an arts hub in the centre of Gravesend. The main space is a gallery with regular exhibitions and workshops and the subsidiary space is an arts drop in for classes and workshops. St George’s Arts Centre is an exciting opportunity for local creatives to exhibit work as well as to show work from artists outside the area. There is a full programme of arts activity for both this centre and other venues. The Arts Assistants play a crucial role in the Arts Centre, welcoming visitors to the gallery and discussing the exhibitions and activities. They will also help ensure the safety of visitors and artworks and the smooth running of the centre.
Working as part of the Arts & Culture team, this casual post requires an individual who enjoys a varied customer facing role. Based at St George's Arts Centre in Gravesend Town Centre main duties include: Staffing the main desk and greeting visitors, sharing knowledge on current and forthcoming exhibitions in the Centre and maintaining and cleaning the gallery during opening hours
Staffing the gallery desk and greeting visitors on arrival
Providing excellent visitor service in response to personal, telephone and general enquiries
Operate gallery procedures including opening and closing.
To act as a key holder if necessary
Keep a record of visitor figures.
To ensure that the gallery is kept clean and tidy during opening hours.
Maintain a tidy and ordered reception area.
Ensure a safe and welcoming atmosphere in the gallery.
Escalate any concerns to the Arts Administrator.
Maintain a good understanding of the exhibitions and activities programme.
Maintain the safety and integrity of the work.
Ensure and maintain accurately all health & safety administration relative to the post.
Ensure that all work areas are kept clean, safe and tidy at all times.

About you

The successful candidate will have a good level of general education and have strong organisational, time management, communication.
You will be a team-player, but also someone who is reliable and able to carry out administrative tasks under pressure and with minimum supervision in due course.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience of working in an administrative and/or local authority licensing position, hold a qualification in a relevant subject (e.g., Customer Care Qualification) and have experience of using the IDOX Uniform software; however prior experience, qualifications and knowledge are not essential for the right person who is keen and able to learn, and undertake training as may be required.
