Job Description
We're looking for an experienced, innovative and technically skilled Data Officer (GIS, Spatial Data & Digital Mapping) to join our Performance and Information Management Unit (PIMU). This is a key leadership role responsible for driving the development and delivery of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), spatial intelligence, digital mapping and data automation solutions that support essential frontline services across Glasgow.
Working within PIMU, you'll lead a specialist team of Works Planners and Information Officers, ensuring the effective management of spatial data, operational information and digital applications. You'll oversee the development of GIS datasets, interactive mapping tools, dashboards and automated workflows that provide operational managers with the intelligence they need to make informed decisions, allocate resources efficiently and improve service delivery.
You'll play a leading role in shaping how data is used across Neighbourhoods, Regeneration & Sustainability, supporting services including waste management, roads, parks, transport and environmental operations. Using technologies such as GIS platforms, FME, web mapping applications and data visualisation tools, you'll help transform complex operational information into meaningful insight that supports planning, performance improvement and strategic decision-making.
We're looking for someone with significant experience in GIS, spatial analysis, digital mapping and data management, together with strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills. You'll be confident managing data governance, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of information, and identifying opportunities to automate processes and improve efficiency through technology. Experience of application development, workflow automation, data integration and the production of management information will be highly advantageous. You should have a degree in GIS, Geography, Data Science, Planning, Environmental Science or a related discipline OR equivalent relevant experience. You will be able to demonstrate continued professional development in GIS, digital systems, automation tools including FME, or application development.
You will be comfortable working with senior managers, operational teams, ICT colleagues and external partners, translating technical information into practical business solutions.
