Job Description
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Trainee Assistant Registration Officer, within the Registration Service for Births, Deaths and Marriages. Reporting to and under the general direction of a Registration Officer, the Trainee Assistant Registration Officer will be expected to take part in a 2 year training programme, delivering a variety of registration services, which includes searching, preparing and issuing extract requests; processing marriage and civil partnership application forms and registering births and deaths.
This will involve in-house training, including a National Government study programme, work shadowing, home study, preparing and sitting test papers and mock exams with finally sitting the modular Examination in the Law and Practice of Registration Services in Scotland at the end of the 2-year period. Following success in gaining the Certificate, the postholder will have the opportunity to apply for any Grade 4 Assistant Registration Officer vacancies.
Candidates should be able to exhibit excellent communication and public speaking and must have good literacy, numeracy and accuracy skills. The ideal candidate should also demonstrate a positive, confident, enthusiastic and empathetic manner along with a willingness to learn and commit to the study programme with a view to a future career within the registration service. A flexible approach to location and the working week is required as the post will mainly be split over 2 areas (45 John Street and 23 Montrose Street). Staff will also be part of a weekend working rota. Please note this post is office based and does not offer a hybrid working model at this time.
