An opportunity has arisen within Neighbourhoods, Regeneration and Sustainability for a Mechanic to join our Fleet Maintenance team on a permanent basis.

NRS brings together a diverse range of Glasgow City Council operational, technical and development services that focus on sustainable transport, place making and delivering essential city services.

What the job involves: Our Mechanics are responsible for the service, maintenance, and repair of the Glasgow City Council fleet of vehicles, ensuring they are up to DVSA and Health & Safety standards. The role will also involve the completion of all relevant associated paperwork, and attendance at breakdowns as and when required.

What we’re looking for: You will be a fully qualified Mechanic, having completed a recognised apprenticeship to C&G, Scotvec, or an equivalent standard, and you will possess a current knowledge of vehicle systems, including electrical vehicles, and knowledge of the legal requirements with regard to MOT standard vehicle conditions.

Whilst the completion of a recognised apprenticeship is an essential requirement of the role, applications from candidates who are due to complete a qualification that meets these requirements within the next 3 months will be considered. A current UK driving licence is also an essential requirement of this role, and this must be an LGV Category C licence or you must be willing to gain this within the first 12 months of employment.

What we’re offering: A core salary starting at £32,204.87 rising to £36,151.72 on an incremental scale. In addition to the annual salary the role attracts a working context & demand (WCD) payment of £960 per annum, and a non-standard work pattern/hours (NSWPH) payment of £2,249 per annum.

A 37-hour per week work pattern, involving working a rotational 2-shift system of:

  • Dayshifts (8am – 4:30pm Monday to Thursday and 8am – 1:30pm Friday) and
  • Backshifts (1pm – 9:30pm Monday to Thursday and 12noon – 5:30pm Friday).

Operational hours are subject to review and may change.

An Annual leave entitlement which starts at 26 days per year, rising to 29 days after 5 years’ continuous service, plus an additional 12.5 Public Holidays per year

Enrolment in the Local Government Pension Scheme; the ability to join the Glasgow Credit Union, who offer a variety of loans, savings and mortgages exclusively for their members; and the ability to make direct contributions from your salary to the Hospital Saturday Fund who offer individual and family health plans.
