Please note: Whilst this opportunity is being offered on an initial 6-month contract, the role is an established position within the permanent structure. A full and open recruitment process will be conducted at the end of this period to appoint to the substantive permanent post.

About the Role
As Waste Minimisation & Sustainability Supervisor, you will lead a dedicated team responsible for delivering waste reduction and recycling initiatives that support the Council’s environmental objectives.
You will oversee community engagement programmes, educational campaigns, sustainability projects, and performance monitoring activities that encourage residents, schools, and local organisations to adopt more sustainable behaviours.
Working closely with internal teams, external partners, schools, and community groups, you will help increase recycling participation, reduce waste, and support the delivery of innovative environmental initiatives.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading, motivating and developing the Waste Minimisation & Sustainability Team.
- Planning and delivering recycling and sustainability campaigns.
- Building strong relationships with schools, residents, community groups and partner organisations.
- Managing community engagement activities and educational programmes.
- Analysing performance data and identifying opportunities for service improvement.
- Supporting the delivery of new waste and recycling initiatives.
- Promoting sustainable behaviours and helping residents make informed choices.
- Working collaboratively across the Council to achieve environmental targets.
What We’re Looking For
You’ll be an excellent communicator with strong leadership skills and a passion for delivering positive environmental outcomes.
- Experience supervising or leading a team.
- Experience managing projects or coordinating programmes of work.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience engaging with customers, stakeholders or local communities.
- The ability to analyse information and use data to support decision making.
- A proactive and collaborative approach to work.
Desirable Experience
- Waste management, recycling, environmental services or sustainability.
- Community engagement, education or behavioural change programmes.
- Local government or public sector experience.
- Knowledge of environmental legislation or recycling practices.
